Existentialism
If the universe is without meaning, or is merely a struggle for superiority, then it is up to the individual to create their own beliefs and values, and so their identity. This is a demanding and onerous task, because it means taking responsibility for one's actions at all times, especially if time repeats itself. Nietzsche thought that some individuals would have the courage to do this, but most would not bother.
This is the basis of existentialism...
